Since the antiquity, at the northern edges of the mount Kalavros - at the boundaries between Thessalonica and Chalkidiki prefecture - there was a spring where plenty of water was bubbling up the ground, forming a small lake which was brimming and ended to the little river Anthemountas (Athemous means "decorated with flowers in Greek) through a picturesque gully and a bewitching landscape.

Local legends fable that the nobles preferred the refreshing cool water from Souroti spring for their symposiums.
Myth also has it that Alexander the Great was a huge fun of Souroti and regularly visited the spring to partake of its valuable waters.
At some point houses began to be built near the spring.
This establishments where the "vaulting horse" of what was later to become Souroti Village.
During World War I French troops set up camp in the area.
French officers were filled with enthusiasm by the exceptional quality of the water, so much that they set up the first rudimentary bottling plant. There they bottled water for their senior officers and sent select lots of water to France.
The Serbs who settled here with the Serbian Morava Division followed the French example. They built a two-storey structure housing the bottling plant Souroti.
Serbs called the water from the spring 'Kisepe Boda' - which means sub-acidic water.
After the end of the war, a resident of Souroti village by the name of Thomas C. Lolas, took over the bottling plant and renovated it.
Georgios Choneos took over the management of the spring.

Prime Minister Venizelos states in open audience that: "Souroti water is of the same value - if not superior - to european waters".
The Souroti spring was officially recognized as being a spa spring* and the first contract was drawn up between the Greek State and Mr. Choneos on exploitation of the spring.
*A spring is recognized as "spa" when its water is beneficial for the health and human systems - either by bathing or drinking.
When the contract expired, on the initiative of the Chairman of the Souroti Community Council with the support and involvement of all residents of Souroti village, the right to exploit the spring was assigned to the Community of Souroti, which then formed the SOUROTI Mineral Water Bottling Enterprise.
Souroti water has been recognized as a sub-acidic sparkling mineral water rich in calcium and magnesium in accordance with Greek Legislation (Government Gazette 600/1-8-1991, Decision No. 4).
It is also included in the European Union’s list of Natural Mineral Waters.
For the first time in Greece, Souroti S.A. launches water in an aluminum can. This was a truly advanced commercial move for the domestic market; a move that came as a surprise to the market competition.
In 1995 Souroti S.A. creates a branch in Athens, in order to provide qualitative and efficient services to the fast growing market of Southern Greece.
In 1992 in Madrid SOUROTI S.A. won the international Arch of Europe Gold Star Award, which is a Quality Prize awarded to the world’s best products.
SOUROTI Mineral Water Bottling Enterprise is converted to Soci?t? Anonyme (Public limited company).
The company launches a promotion campaign all over Greece, with parties, happenings, cultural events and sports sponsoring, in an effort to reintroduce Souroti brands to the consumers.
A new Souroti brand is widely promoted this summer; Flavored Natural Sparkling Mineral Water Souroti with Aroma Lemon-Lime, Orange and Peach.
At the same time, the modernization of the facilities and line production equipment is completed with the introduction of a new pet bottling unit.
Since June 2002, the new high-tech bottling production unit is in full operation. This important investment is in accordance with all European safety specifications and it is ISO 9001 and HACCP certified.
Souroti celebrates its 90-year anniversary and launches the redesigned corporate website, www.Souroti.gr.
The Company’s new Board of Directors launches and completes a major redesign effort of all processes of the Company aiming at modernising it and enhancing the quality of its operations. A series of investment projects are planned and implemented in view of upgrading its mechanical equipment in order to increase its competitiveness and to fully ensure the quality of its products.
The Company launches its new product, SOUROTEA, available in three flavours, lemon tea, peach tea and green tea. The product is quickly welcomed by consumers. The Company strengthens its Export department by putting emphasis on the penetration and growth of its products in new markets, such as China, Canada and the USA. At the same time, it prepares, from the design phase to the flavouring and packaging details, its new ranges of products in the soft drink segment, which will be completed and launched in 2012.
